We hold true to these values, never wavering from them, which is why we are The Trusty Compass, a unique online news and editorial blog, traveling the political and religious seas—even to the very waters where the two converge.
Content Style Indicators
For clarity of intent all our Captain’s Log journals (editorials) and Ship’s Log journals (blogs) will be marked on the title line on the far right side with these indicator codes listed below. This will simply and distinctly indicate the journalistic style and nature of the piece. At all times we align with our Compass North Values described above.
Editorial Opinion content is represented in the piece—it will received the distinguished title of Captain’s Log (rather than Ship’s Log) to indicate that it contains some editorial opinion from our Captain and Editor in Chief. Editorial Opinion is persuasive in nature—it offers opinions seeking to influence and persuade your opinion. Political Editorial really requires News facts and so you will almost always see this E symbol married with the N News symbol; it will be rare for you to see the E symbol alone.- It is not a smear campaign if the facts are accurate and the opinion fairly representing the facts. It’s difficult for extremists on any side to understand this. We hope to never misrepresent something factual, and if we do, we’ll correct the writing because it’s wrong to twist facts simply to support your opinion.
- All of our news stories will be written with a moral and ethical bias toward Judeo-Christian values. E.g. murder and stealing are wrong and this is not editorial to write this way. These principles don’t condone sex outside a marriage between a man and a woman either; we assume this to be true, however, this is an example where depending upon the writing we may mark it as editorial if we’re writing persuasively.
News content is represented in the piece. The goal of News is to tell the story while minimizing editorial opinion. However, opinions are obviously found in all journalists, and unless we are reporting on the weather or mathematics, it’s impossible to write something interesting without presenting some opinion, especially regarding morality. E.g. nearly all journalists would write negatively toward child abuse and not consider this editorializing, yet technically it is; this would be writing from the perspective of a certain morality.- All of our news stories will be written with a moral and ethical bias toward Judeo-Christian values; we don’t consider this editorializing unless our words try to influence opinion rather than simply stating fact from a Judeo-Christian perspective. If News and Editorial are combined in the same piece then we will show both the News and Editorial Opinion symbols together.
Informative details a greatly expounded upon here. Prepare for some deep reading on your some subject matter. The purpose is present factual information to educate on the back story or related material; and to teach difficult subject matter so that it can be referenced in future News and Editorial pieces. We feel that this is a critical piece missing in online journalism today and so we have added this important feature to our site. It will be small at first and grow over time. If News or Editorial is blended with Informative content then we will show both all the applicable symbols together.
Announcement content is represented in the piece. This can be general announcements and/or accolades to someone, a group, cause or event .
Political content is represented in the piece.
